WELCOME TO MY YARD

Thinking it’s difficult to fundraise?
Does the thought of fundraising bring you out in the sweats? It used to for us too! It is much more fun and easier than you might think! It’s all about being confident and taking that first step..go for it!

Big changes start with the small actions of individuals

Here are 5 top tips for getting going from the
WTMY team
  1. Drag your friends into it! Get together with a few friends. ..everything is easier when there are several brains at work...persuade them with the lure of a home cooked dinner at your place or helping them out with ‘that thing’ you have been putting off for ages!
  2. Brainstorm! Hold a brain storming session with your friends for some ideas...write them all down, ridiculous included, and then vote which idea is the favourite. Which idea best draws on your strengths as a team? As we are a project working with vulnerable children and young people please ensure it is respectful and appropriate as you will be representing us...that definitely doesn’t mean you can’t have fun!
  3. Planning is everything! Think through your idea...have you got enough time? Will it be fun and manageable? Will you have to pay out any money upfront? When would be the best time to do it? How will you promote? Who is your target audience? What will be your fundraising target? Can donors donate online? Will the donors feel like they will get value for their hard earned money? Do you need permission from anyone? Have you thought about any safety aspects? How can you get the community involved?- maybe a local business will sponsor you or provide donations to raffle off.
  4. Do you know your stuff? Whilst you probably don’t need to know the complete history of Nepal front to back it might be helpful to find out a few facts for anyone interested. Look through our website and Facebook page and write down a couple of key points you want to get across to people. A quick Google search will also bring you up lots of interesting facts about Nepal in general.Still have questions? contact@welcometomyyard.com
  5. Promote, promote, promote! There are so many places you can promote your event or activity, use Facebook, Twitter, MySpace or any of the other social networks, emails posters or flyers or invites, consider contacting local media to let them know about what you are up to and why. Let us know what you are doing as early as possible and send us a promotional photo and we will advertise for you on our social networks as well. Make sure you keep people in the loop with your progress as they will feel more onboard and included, take photos, or perhaps do a blog or a video diary.
Oh...and a final free tip for you..and the most important one
  1. Don’t give up! Whilst it might seem a bit daunting if you never have fundraised before...you can do it, and you will have so much fun and great memories along the way! Remember even small donations take us a step further to achieve our goals
