Substance Misuse Worker
2-3 week placement
 
We need a volunteer to:
  • Assess project needs in order to identify steps forward for support
  • Engage with the community alongside local staff and volunteers finding creative ways to involve and encourage participation of SCYP in order to help with our and their understanding and experience of substance misuse.
  • Develop a range of tools and resources for staff and volunteer Key Workers to work alongside vulnerable client groups, including those with literacy issues and across different age ranges.
  • Develop a training pack for staff and volunteers to aid in our understanding of substance misuse amongst street children, young people and families.
  • Assist in developing local networks and referral pathways for our client group
  • Build international networks
  • Assist in other aspects of our project activities.
  • Work in partnership with local volunteers and staff to combine knowledge and expertise.
This post will involve some contact with the SCYP but will also be a developmental role for the project.
 
Volunteer support worker/Social Worker
1- 3 month placement
  • Host skill sharing workshops/discussions for staff and volunteers on different themes of practice.
  • Help to deliver the WTMY programmes and support staff with their 1:1 Support work alongside the young people.
  • To work in partnership with local volunteers and staff to deliver our holistic programme of support to the street community.
  • To work with the Director to develop our intervention delivery methods and tools using a clear model of support alongside the Director
  • To assist with developing our tools for individual monitoring and evaluation of the interventions we deliver ensuring we are working to an evidence base
  • To mutually share knowledge and expertise with staff and volunteers to develop best practise and ensure that SCYP are receiving the best possible service we can provide with our limited resources
  • Assist with all other aspects of project activities.
Please note that this is both a capacity building and a direct delivery placement. Volunteers are requested to have a good understanding of prevention, assessment and intervention delivery, working with complex needs, have worked with strengths based practice and an interest to share their knowledge with others to helps us adapt tools to ensure they fit the local context. They must be either qualified in their field or have good experience of working with a range of tools, resources, or be able to draw on trainings. Volunteers also need to be able to work with mutual respect and partnership of our local staff and volunteers in their field to develop dynamic practices together, drawing on expertise from different cultures and countries for the benefit of street children, young people and young adults.
 
Healthy Bodies Programme
Medical Professionals
1- 3 month placement

WTMY is seeking qualified medical professionals to join our Healthy Bodies Programme to support the basic health and wellbeing of the street community that we support.

The focus of this placement is on

  • Working alongside our partner hospital in Kathmandu to deliver our monthly outreach programme
  • To support the delivery and development of a women’s health initiative
  • To provide regular support to the community
  • To develop material and deliver information on basic health issues to the community and our team
  • To assist us with our fundraising initiatives to provide resources within our healthy bodies programme.
  • To assist with the general running of our project activities.
 
Rock Climber / Activities Co-ordinator
Minimum 2 month placement

We need an experienced Rock Climber / Sports/ outdoor enthusiast. Someone that loves working with people, being outdoors, and it would be beneficial (but not essential) to have some experience working with children and young people.
  • Coordinate our Climb for Kids programme which takes the street community to the local indoor climbing centre
  • Train and mentor individual young people to help them to develop their climbing skills
  • Help to organise other outdoor fun games/activities for the community
  • Assist with the general project work
  • Help to build local and international networks to support our climbing programme.
  • Assist with our fundraising efforts for the Climb For kids programme
 
Social Business Placements
2 month + placement

Social Business placement is an incredible opportunity to help a not for profit social enterprise grow and make a difference in the lives of street children and young people in Nepal. Your knowledge, skills and time will be put to great use and we hope in return that you will have a rewarding and unforgettable experience with us in Nepal and know that you have made a positive impact in our project and community.
 
Your individual set of skills will be put to use in 2 key areas:
  1. Helping Welcome To My Yard to grow
  • You will be using your knowledge and experience in business to help us build and promote our not-for-profit businesses projects (such as our Walk With Me City Tour, WTMY e-shop , Recycled Bag project.
  • You will actively be working within the businesses alongside staff and local volunteers.
  • Provide information and informal training of staff, interns and volunteers in your skill area to help our team to develop their business skill set.
  • Helping young people to develop their business skills
  1. Helping young people to develop their business skills
  • You will work alongside Directors, young people, tourists, expats and the Nepali business community.
  • Our small business projects are designed to help bring in an income for the project and provide essential work experience and training opportunities for the young people we support.
 
English Teaching Placement
1-5 months placement
 

WTMY provides fun English workshops for the street community in the heart of where they stay. The focus is on delivering basic practical English skills in a non formal way. We do this through weekly games, activities and classes

We also provide 1:1 sessions with individual children and young people wishing to take their learning a step further and improve their English and for those involved our training programmes. We teach at the centre and on the street creating interactive lessons out at the market or out and about in the community creating a fun, visual and meaningful way to learn English.

When not teaching children and young people volunteers can assist staff, interns and volunteers with improving their English, create resources that can be utilised by others in the future and help out with our general project activities.

Volunteers are asked to have a TEFL or equivalent and it would be helpful to have some experience in teaching. We are looking for self starting volunteers who can take initiative and be creative to help us with this exciting programme.

The role also gives you an opportunity to help out in other programmes we run such as the Healthy Bodies programme or the Rock Climbing activities. The role creates an opportunity for you to be creative and create your own tasks.

Pop up shop Coordinator – Sydney Based Volunteer
The Role: WTMY e-shop and stalls Coordinator for Australia.

Your main responsibility will be the distributor of all e-shop products to our buyers by
  1. helping to run stalls and market and helping to locate and book them
  2. researching places to hold stalls either un-announced or announced pop-up shops (e.g. universities, train stations)
  3. helping with stock take and ordering
  4. helping to promote the stalls and shop
Other Details: There are no expenses paid for this volunteer role. You will be working together with Sydney based UK Directors but you will be leading in coordinating and planning.

This is an essential volunteer role for our organisation, the e-shop is the main funding source for WTMY and your part will have a huge impact both on organisation and our customers.

  • The aim of the eshop is a fun way of donating. Your role is to promote and sell products of the WTMY eshop reminding our customers that profits are re-invested back to our projects helping street children and young people.

 
Non Executive Director Member – Location London

Welcome To My Yard Community Interest Company is establishing a Board of Non-Executive Directors who will form our new London Based Advisory Board. The Board will be providing integral monitoring, evaluation and guidance to the work we undertake. As an advisory lead in your area of expertise you will also add genuine value to our practice, our growth and improve our service delivery.

Candidates need to have experience, knowledge and skills in one or more of the following areas: Education, Social Work Practice/Family Support/ youth work, Business, marketing, funding, philanthropy, Community participation, Nepal (first hand awareness/ knowledge of cultural context and customs).

WTMY e-shop & Stalls Coordinator

The Role: WTMY e-shop and stalls Coordinator for the UK.

You will be managed and supported by a London based Board member and the UK Directors. You will also be communicating with our team in Nepal who will be send out our orders.

MS Access Database Developer
Volunteer
Fixed term project (until database completion)
We are urgently seeking a volunteer to help Welcome To My Yard to develop a simple client database that can:
  • Track the young people we work with,
  • Track attendance at the activities that we run and
  • To record our individual interactions with the community
  • Run reports
This database will have a huge impact on our project helping us to better track the work that we do and to build our evidence base on how we are making a positive difference in the lives of street children and young people in Nepal.

Unfortunately WTMY is not in a position to provide any financial resources for this project so it will be on a volunteer basis only.
