Substance Misuse Worker
2-3 week placement
 
We need a volunteer to:
  • Assess project needs in order to identify steps forward for support
  • Engage with the community alongside local staff and volunteers finding creative ways to involve and encourage participation of SCYP in order to help with our and their understanding and experience of substance misuse.
  • Develop a range of tools and resources for staff and volunteer Key Workers to work alongside vulnerable client groups, including those with literacy issues and across different age ranges.
  • Develop a training pack for staff and volunteers to aid in our understanding of substance misuse amongst street children, young people and families.
  • Assist in developing local networks and referral pathways for our client group
  • Build international networks
  • Assist in other aspects of our project activities.
  • Work in partnership with local volunteers and staff to combine knowledge and expertise.
This post will involve some contact with the SCYP but will also be a developmental role for the project.
 
Volunteer support worker
1- 2 month placement
  • To work in partnership with local volunteers and staff to deliver our holistic programme of support.
  • To work with the Director to develop our intervention delivery methods and tools using a clear model of support alongside the Director
  • To mutually share knowledge and expertise with staff and volunteers to develop best practise and ensure that SCYP are receiving the best possible service we can provide with our limited resources
  • To assist with developing our tools for individual monitoring and evaluation of the interventions we deliver ensuring we are working to an evidence base
  • Host mutual skills sharing workshops/discussions for staff and volunteers on different themes of practice.
  • Assist with all other aspects of project activities.
Please note that this is both a capacity building and a direct delivery placement. Volunteers are requested to have a good understanding of prevention, assessment and intervention delivery working with complex needs, have worked with strengths based practice and an interest to share their knowledge with others to helps us adapt tools to ensure they fit the local context. They must be either qualified in their field or have good experience of working with a range of tools, resources, or be able to draw on trainings, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Kids Talk/Teen Talk, Triple P, Family Partnership Model or other relevant trainings. Volunteers also need to be able to work with mutual respect and partnership of our local staff and volunteers in their field to develop dynamic practices together drawing on expertise from different cultures and countries for the benefit of SCYP and street young adults.
 
Sport Climber / Activities Co-ordinator
Minimum 2 month placement
 
We need an experienced Rock Climber / Sports enthusiast. Someone that loves working with people, being outdoors, and it would be beneficial to have some experience working with children and young people.
  • Guide one day climbing trips around the Kathmandu Valley, could guide up to 5-6 clients with a help from another volunteer. You will be expected to have a great deal of experience in lead climbing, setting up quickdraws, instruct new climbers in basic safety and more importantly... just love climbing.
  • Co-ordinate and instruct on Indoor climbing activities with the Street Children and Young People (SCYP)
  • Help to build local and international networks to support our climbing programme.
  • Organise fun/sports activities for the SCYP
  • Assist with all other project activities
 
Social Business management/ marketing
2 month placement
  • You will be using your knowledge and experience in business to help us build and promote our not-for-profit businesses projects.
  • You will actively be working within the businesses alongside staff and local volunteers.
  • You can also assist us with our training and learning of business practices with the young people we support.
  • Additionally, you will also help to look for further opportunities for the future, building on ideas from the young people we support.
  • You will work alongside Directors, young people, tourists, expats and the Nepali business community.
  • Volunteer will need a basic level of fitness as this post involves cycling. The hours will also involve some early morning work.
Our small business projects are designed to help bring an income for the project and provide essential work experience opportunities for the young people we support.

Teaching with the street community at WTMY

We are providing fun English workshops for the street community in the heart of where they stay. The focus is on delivering basic practical English skills in a non-formal but fun creative way. As part of your induction we will create some target goals together for you to achieve within the length of your stay. The role will give you an opportunity to teach regular group classes and 1:1 with Young People who are learning for specific work placement within our organisation such as the Walk With Me Tour. You would also be able to teach other local volunteers with new teaching techniques for them to apply when they're teaching the classes.

The role also gives you an opportunity to help out in other programmes we run such as the Healthy Bodies programme or the Rock Climbing activities. The role creates an opportunity for you to be creative and create your own tasks.
